The “HOT TO GO!” artist recently took to Instagram to criticise “creepy” fan behaviour and only earlier this week lashed out at a paparazzo who told her to “shut the fuck up” at the MTV VMAs. It is in the midst of this maelstrom that Roan revealed that Lorde had reached out to offer some words of advice. In an interview with The Face which dropped yesterday (September 17), Roan described how she had reached out to the Kiwi star while crying in an airport bathroom, and that Lorde had responded with an eight-point list of things she wished people had told her when she was emerging in the public eye. While she did not disclose the list itself, Roan explained how the singer “went through fucking hell. She was a baby!”, with Lorde being only 13 years old when she was signed to Universal Music Group, and 17 when her breakout hit “Royals” was certified diamond in America. Fans of Lorde’s will already be familiar with her big sister-like energy, penning the monthly newsletter Solar Institute Bulletin which speaks frankly about her personal life and offers words of support to subscribers. One recent instalment describes Lorde’s journey of “listening to her body” to overcome gut and skin issues as well as inflammation. Chappell Roan’s ascent has been similarly spectacular, with debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess winning her best new artist at the VMAs last week, as well as three singles being nominated for separate awards. Following her highly-publicised struggles with this rapid rise, various artists have also reached out to offer support, including Charli xcx, Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, Mistki, MUNA and boygenius. Other stars also echoed Roan’s sentiments, with Hayley Williams, Shawn Mendes and Noah Khan all reposting her initial Instagram post calling out fan behaviour.
