From now on I will be doing death metal only!!’ShareLink copied ✔️September 29, 2019September 29, 2019TextThom Waite Greta Thunberg’s speech to the UN earlier this week was as powerful as it was (rightfully) uncomfortable. As ever, she cut straight through the misleading lexicon and straight-up lies of world leaders to deliver her urgent message, showing more maturity than any of her opposition. There are other ways to send a message, though, and thrash metal drummer John Meredith has decided to take her words up a notch (literally). In a video shared to YouTube, Meredith – who is the drummer for the New York City metal band Suaka – dubbed her speech with more metal vocals and a suitably heavy guitar accompaniment. Aptly, it’s titled: “Greta Thunberg sings Swedish Death Metal”. I have moved on from this climate thing... From now on I will be doing death metal only!! https://t.co/mYqXxFuE77— Greta Thunberg (@GretaThunberg) September 28, 2019 While the project might seem a little frivolous in the face of Thunberg’s message about a growing climate emergency, it’s getting the message out there to a wider audience and comes from a place of respect. “When I saw her speech, I was very impressed by her passion and outrage,” Meredith told Rolling Stone, adding that he hopes people don’t mistake the metal cover for him trying to make fun of her. “My personal stance is that individuals need to do their part to strive to conserve and preserve our environment.” The video has also gained approval from the teenage activist herself. “I have moved on from this climate thing,” Thunberg tweeted. “From now on I will be doing death metal only!!” Thankfully, she hasn’t actually shown any signs of slowing down.
