I'm making booty-pop or pop-pop electro club music, pop songs to
move you're ass to. When I play live, I play a lot with the audience… I
want people to go mad, to dance and jump. Yelle on stage is quite
powerful – we're like an electro hip-hop band with the energy of a rock
band, it's fun! Performing live is 'the thing', it's why I make music.
My lyrics are about relationships between boys and girls, about love,
hate, jogging, parties, fun… it's all about life as a young girl
nowadays, with a lot of humour! I always sing in French, it's my
language… I live and dream in French, and so do I sing.
I grew up
in Britanny - the 'West Coast' of France, it was really nice and
peaceful, I was always into music. With fashion, my style goes a lot
with my personality – I don't cheat with that. My music inspires the
way I dress, what I sing tells me what to wear, my music is pop and
dance – she is shiny, so I wear lots of strong colours. My style is
powerful street pop wear, it's fresh and bright with a touch of
hip-hop… I love life and I want to show it. I'm very 'year 2000' with
an eighties influence – hip-pop open minded style, that's what I'd love
to say. On stage I like to dress more extravaganza but with the same
spirit, at the moment my favourite piece is a yellow smiley dress
designed by Ksubi.
Fashion and music are closely linked... every
kind of music now has a code of style, like if you're hip-hop you're
supposed to wear baggy's and bling-bling, if you're rock it's slims and
stripped, nu-rave is fluoro. But big personalities in music today can
impose their own style, and I like it more this way around. As a teen
Madonna was my icon, I always loved her – the way she always changes
and is always on Top! She's a chameleon and 'the' pop star!
Lyrics
from the song 'Jogging' - "Fière allure, courbatures, Je suis plus
