The Greenpeace International site is a mammoth forum catering to 2.8 million supporters worldwide, featuring links to dozens of national Greenpeace sites that cover localised issues, news and events. Since 1971, Greenpeace has been a powerful non-violent force, campaigning against environmental destruction. Currently the organisation has been fighting against climate change - aiming to provoke an "energy revolution". Long the masters of stunt marketing, they have adapted that expertise to the world of virals – like the spoof Steve Jobs speech about making Apple green (below).

More from Greenpeace

Biofuels, a relatively dry subject has created a huge amount of comment and feedback in other blogs; maybe it's the orang-utans but who knows?

Perhaps people really do care about the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation?!?!

As for new developments, I think the web is spearheading a sea-change in attitudes towards public figures and previously inassailable institutions. It's not the be-all and end-all (there's still a huge portion of the world's population not online, so anyone who says the internet is the new democracy is just plain wrong), but it is changing the way we in the UK relate to the politicians and corporations that control our lives.
I was going to say the biggest change we'll see is those very people who've spent years distancing themselves from the general public trying to re-engage with them, but that's already happening (look at webcameron and Labourvision). But what we *will* see is them figuring out how to do it properly - what we're seeing now is those first fumbling steps as they try to control their messages as tightly as they have before. If it results in MPs and CEOs treating their constituents and customers like real people, then that's got to be a good thing.

What a carve up!

An animation produced with Will Flash For Cash to illustrate the plight of the Congo rainforest. It was part of our launch material for the Congo campaign back in April, and it certainly hit home - at the spring meeting of the World Bank (the main target), our campaigners we told to do something about the 'renegade' element within Greenpeace that had produced the animation that their kids were watching on Youtube!

What are we waiting for?

Not produced exclusively for the web, but this has reached a far wider audience online than we could ever have hoped to achieve through other means. It's been viewed over 34,000 times on Youtube, not bad for an 18-min film about decentralised energy! Supporters have been downloading it to show to their friends, local councillors and MPs, so as this is one of our core campaign issues, that's a huge success - so much so, a sequel is due for release next month.

Greenpeace's del.icio.us feed

Set up when we relaunched the main site in April, it gives us an opportunity to highlight news stories, blog posts and videos that compliment our own blog posts. The magic of RSS means we can feature the latest items on the site, and the wonder of Feedburner means we can include it in our main RSS feeds!
