Having always considered G-Star as a denim label, the show itself was quite interesting, as it revealed different facets
of the Dutch brand. From preppy inspired, Chuck Bass-esque ensembles to American college basketball culture and bright,
popping colours on slinky silks, the huge collection covered a broad range of elements. Most confronting was the unorthodox
format; the show started in traditional catwalk style with models parading robotically straight up and down the runway to
live piano music, before a stunning light show and pumping techno led a surge of models invading the stage in a theatrical,
fast paced performance. I was later informed that the first part of the show was 'the way it goes in New York, you know'
and the second half was more enthusiastically referred to as 'the way we do it in Amsterdam'. The show ended in a crescendo
of signature G-Star denim, with double, triple and quadruple denim clad models applauding the beaming, suntanned designer.
The drama in the second half of the show definitely had a distinct appeal, as the high energy atmosphere created an
unforgettable performance, and hushed the crowd who had previously chattered loudly through the customary runway.
