Welcome To Berlin!

After a very early morning (4am, shudder), I made it (semi-intact) to the Bread & Butter Berlin tradeshow. The event itself was overwhelming - held in the immense ex-airport, Tempelhof, the architecturally designed, decadent showrooms seemed to stretch for miles. Our hosts, Eva and Marije from G-star were cute as buttons, and made sure fellow blogger Jennine and I always had a sneaky champagne in hand.

Enjoy The Ride

What better way for Bread & Butter to make it's return to Berlin than to secure the old Templehoff airport to make the grand scale trade fair even more over the top, they even had white painted bikes with flags saying 'Enjoy the Ride' so you can get from one end to the other, which takes about 25 minutes on foot. Since we arrived in only enough time to get a tour of the G-star installation and tent, Kat and I spent a few mintues riding these bikes around the old airfield... of course here, we focus more on enjoying than getting from point A to B.

G-Star Runway

Having always considered G-Star as a denim label, the show itself was quite interesting, as it revealed different facets of the Dutch brand. From preppy inspired, Chuck Bass-esque ensembles to American college basketball culture and bright, popping colours on slinky silks, the huge collection covered a broad range of elements. Most confronting was the unorthodox format; the show started in traditional catwalk style with models parading robotically straight up and down the runway to live piano music, before a stunning light show and pumping techno led a surge of models invading the stage in a theatrical, fast paced performance. I was later informed that the first part of the show was 'the way it goes in New York, you know' and the second half was more enthusiastically referred to as 'the way we do it in Amsterdam'. The show ended in a crescendo of signature G-Star denim, with double, triple and quadruple denim clad models applauding the beaming, suntanned designer. The drama in the second half of the show definitely had a distinct appeal, as the high energy atmosphere created an unforgettable performance, and hushed the crowd who had previously chattered loudly through the customary runway.

Red vs Blues

At the G-Star runway show, I thought 'I bet that sweet red can take on the crew of tough blues.' People wear straight blue all the time, and it's rarely a conversation stopper, yet head-to-toe red, no matter how innocent the cut and silhouette outfit makes a powerful statement.

Jennine's Mega Shades

Suffice to say, I spent most of the day drooling over Jennine's Mega Shades. Lady Gaga meets Karen Walker meets Chanel meets someone stop me from fighting her and stealing them! The best/most envy inspiring part is that they are thrifted. For 1 euro.

In one piece....

Sometimes nothing is more perfect than a one piece. Sonja is wearing a jumpsuit by S'NOB. What really caught my eye was the gathered neckline and overall drapeyness of the suit without teetering into the realm of bulky, making it both flattering and comfortabe.

Male Models

In the car on the way to Bread & Butter we were given strict instructions not to take photos of naked models. I made a judgement call and snapped these half naked models (all English boys mind you) at the G-Star party after the runway show. They are all huge Dazed fans. by Kat George of Style Lines
