Birds Eye View Fashion Film Festival
Earlier this month over seventy cinemas and galleries across London played host to the fourth year of Birds Eye View, the UK's first major women's film festival. (You may already have seen our interviews with directors Sonja Heiss, Jennifer Venditti, Lucia Puenzo, and Mariam Jobrani.) Film-maker Kathryn Ferguson curated a screening of fashion films at the ICA, one of many recent events giving designers the chance to move from page to screen.
Films were submitted by up-and-coming and established artists, designers, film-makers, actors, models, musicians, illustrators, and photographers, including designer Bella Freud (whose film was co-directed by actor John Malkovich), photographer Ellen Von Unwerth (whose film featured actor Kirsten Dunst), Dazed photographer Toyin, London designer Emma Cook, New York phtographer Jamie Isaia, and artist Julie Verhoeven. The screening was followed by a panel discussion with Bella Freud, Toyin and artist Mahalia Belo, chaired by Penny Martin of SHOWstudio.
