Kicking off the events with a collaboration with producer / DJ Gilles Peterson, the sessions will culminate with a grand finale which will feature an exclusive performance by the man himself. Having spent the summer in Cuba, he has unearthed the very best in new musical talent to be featured in the ‘Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura’, a double CD featuring 28 tracks from Latin, afro jazz and fusion to hip hop, funk, reggaeton and pop. The ‘Havana Cultura Collective’ will provide a unique Cuban spin to nights out across venues in Leeds and Manchester where guests can enjoy Cuban cocktails like Mojitos and frozen Daiquiris whilst listening to line-ups including resident DJ Lubi, the UK’s top Latin music DJ with shows on Jazz FM, BBC Radio 1Xtra and Gillles Peterson’s Worldwide. In Leeds, he will be supported by local DJs, DJ Gib and DJ Silvao who has remixed for Black Eyed Peas to Beyonce. In Manchester, DJ Irfan Hussain who runs an independent label, Rain City Music with a repertoire of soulful / deep house, Latin, funk, Cuban and electronic music will be performing. Towards the end of the nights, there will also be an exclusive performance by the Havana Cultura Band, especially created for the project by Peterson himself. The next gig will be on the 19th November with Gilles Peterson, DJ Lubi, Havana Cultura Band and Simbad at the Mint Lounge, Manchester Escape the algorithm!
