Dean Quinn whose graduation collection was inspired by Blade Runner, took glass beads as a motif and lined them up meticulously on his rigourously structured pieces lines. We were impressed with this Central Saint Martins grad when we saw the BA show back in June and here we learn a little more about the rising star who will be presenting his next collection at London Fashion Week...

Dazed Digital: How old are you?
Dean Quinn: I am 23.

DD: How long have you been designing?
Dean Quinn: Since I was about 15. I got sick of drawing squashed up coke cans in art class.

DD: Where are you based? 
Dean Quinn: I make my collection here in London. I am London Fields bound for A/W '10.

DD: How would you describe your own style?
Dean Quinn: Tailored, embellished and robotic. The method I use to create the beading is similar to painting.

DD: Who would you like to collaborate with?
Dean Quinn: I would love to design costumes for a Tarsem Singh Film.

DD: Who do you have in mind when you design?
Dean Quinn: The beautiful women I am surrounded by. I am also fascinated with that woman that a lot of men aspire to be.

DD: What inspires you at the moment?
Dean Quinn: I am inspired by London. I am astounded at just how supportive it can be to a young person starting
out. There really is nowhere else in the world that dreams can be made like here.

DD: Who are your favorite designers and why?
Dean Quinn: I love Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel, he sits within the house like a religious deity or an autonomous leader giving blessings.  I think he fascinates me so much because another designer such as himself has never immerged that will give 100% of his life up for fashion, people just think they do.

DD: Were you interested in fashion while growing up?
Dean Quinn: Always. I was fascinated but I come from a market town in Northern Ireland, the fashion world was actually a world away.

DD: What are the difficulties faced being a designer today?
Dean Quinn: I think that because fashion is so much more evident within the youth culture today than even 5 years ago, it has created this huge trend for young designers being heavily inspired by other designers.  Being different
and individual is what this industry thrives on.  My collection was different because it was flattering and wearable, why would you ever wear something that makes you feel anything less than amazing?

DD: If you weren't designing, what would you be doing?
Dean Quinn: I Would be working in the film industry, or at least trying to.

DD: What are your plans for the future?
Dean Quinn: I am hoping to grow my business to a stage where I have provisions in place so that i can really produce a collection I am truly happy with.

DD: Can we buy your collection?
Dean Quinn: At the moment my collection can be made to order but I am in talk at the moment with stores to be selling the collection by A/W '10... Fingers crossed.

Dean Quinn will be part of the 'Ones to Watch' show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout in September's London Fashion Week
