Now, Olijnyk makes denim inspired by his friends. With distinct skate culture elements remaining in his work, Note To Self is Olijnyk’s fledgling label, an organic progression from casually making jeans for his peers. After years spent travelling, studying and skating, Olijnyk moved to Melbourne and quickly gained experience in clothing production working with some of the city’s most prominent street wear designers, and his personal favourite labels. He started selling his own custom creations by word of mouth, so the inception of Note To Self was spawned by a natural progression of events. The label’s A/W 09 collection pays homage to its humble beginnings, as each piece is aptly named after a friend of Olijnyk’s - and the very person who inspired the particular design. The driving principle behind Note To Self is that everyone requires and individual pair of jeans, as everyone is different, both in physical shape and daily lifestyle. Olijnyk works with this in mind, and only when he makes a pair he is "especially happy with and knows other people will like," does he go into production. Note To Self is about advanced simplicity, as impeccable craftsmanship meets no-fuss design. The label’s denim is for lovers of easy, casual street wear, characterised by the hidden culture of gritty Melbourne life.Note To Self hits stores Australia wide in March and is available to international customers at online stores Order & Progress and The Outpost.
